A sculptural custom blackened steel staircase connects the upper and lower levels of the residence; living spaces open to terraces, gardens, and water; quieter rooms create places for retreat and reflection. Throughout, architecture and landscape are deliberately intertwined, allowing daily life to flow easily from indoors out, season to season.

At the center of the property, a sunken fire pit extends into the pond, bringing family and friends down to the water’s surface with Aspen Mountain beyond. It captures the spirit of the project: immersive, unexpected, and deeply connected to place.

Within the home, distinct spaces give shape to different ways of being together. A Shou Sugi Ban-wrapped lounge offers an intimate counterpoint to the larger gathering spaces, while the primary suite extends into the landscape through an outdoor shower, suspended daybed, and office overlooking the pond. The kitchen acts as the social heart of the house, opening directly to the pool and outdoor dining areas and, in a more playful move, a sculptural slide beside it leads to the lower-level game room and bunk rooms.

A restrained palette of split-face Wisconsin limestone, GFRC rainscreen panels, blackened stainless steel, expansive glass, and warm white oak gives the home a quiet material richness while standing up to Aspen’s alpine climate. Paired with custom furnishings, art, and crafted details, the result is contemporary yet enduring, refined without excess and deeply rooted in both family life and the surrounding landscape
