Design Excellence
ASPEN / BASALT, COLORADO — October 4, 2025 — CCY Architects is proud to announce that two of its recent hospitality projects—MOLLIE Aspen and Eglise Lodge—have received honorable recognition from the AIA College of Fellows Western Mountain Region (AIA COF WMR) in the 2025 Design Awards. This prestigious program spans an eight-state chapter representing Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Arizona.
The AIA Western Mountain Region Design Awards celebrate architecture that exemplifies design excellence in response to context, climate, and community.
“We’re honored to be recognized by the AIA Western Mountain Region,” said Todd Kennedy, Partner at CCY Architects. “MOLLIE Aspen and Eglise Lodge embody our studio’s belief in design that is rooted in place yet forward-looking—projects that enrich everyday experience and foster meaningful connections.”
MOLLIE Aspen, a newly completed 68-room boutique hotel, takes cues from Aspen’s architectural legacy and urban fabric. Its massing reflects the town’s historic thirty-foot lot widths, while natural materials—brick masonry and wood—ground the building in its setting. A moody brick base, with tones inspired by the nearby Elk Mountains, reinforces the structure’s connection to place. CCY Architects served as both Design Architect and Architect of Record.
Eglise Lodge, located at 9,573 feet in Big Sky, Montana, is a new on-mountain dining and gathering destination supporting a 1,000-acre ski and recreation expansion. Its design embraces the alpine environment with a mass timber structure, expansive views of the Gallatin Range, and a material palette of stone, wood, and steel. Inside, resilient yet tactile finishes create a welcoming retreat after a day on the mountain. CCY provided full design services, including architecture and interiors.
“Designing at elevation pushes us to think differently,” said Matt Smith, Principal at CCY Architects. “At Eglise, we advanced the potential of mass timber to create a structure that feels timeless while honoring the mountain landscape. Every choice was made to enhance guest experience and environmental resilience.”
“In Big Sky, interiors must endure tough conditions yet remain inviting,” added Melanie Grant, Interiors Studio Director at CCY Architects. “At Eglise Lodge, we chose materials like wool, leather, and natural stone for their strength and warmth—crafting spaces that welcome guests while standing up to the alpine environment.”
